Can depakote interfere with your thyroid blood tests? I have the understanding that Depakote is not only to treat depression but is said to help those with thyroid symptoms and people who get migraines. If a person has all the symptoms of hyperthyroid and a nodule is found on their thyroid but they have been on depakote because it was thought they were manic depressive. Then when they go in for their thyroid tests their thyroid tests come back normal. Could the depakote be interfering with their thyroid test results?
Anyone know how bad the blood test is for thyroid tests? I'm absolutely horrible with needles and stuff, and I have fainted badly before from getting blood drawn. Can someone tell me how much blood is taken for a thyroid test AND, how long the whole thing lasts? I've had a test once where the entire act of drawing blood was so fast, maybe ten seconds at most. Is this like that or will it be worse/longer?
newly diagnosed diabetes type 1 thyroid blood test was borderline. What does this mean? When my son was taken to hospital and diagnosed with diabetes type 1 3 weeks ago. They took all sorts of blood tests. We've been back to see the consultant today and amongst a boat load of information she told me that his thyroid test was borderline. I was so overwhelmed by everything (he was having his insulin changed to a different regime) that i forgot to ask what it meant? Any information gratefully recieved.

Her Free t4 was 9.1 pmol/l which was within the reference range Her TSH was 1.96 uU/ml which was within the reference range Her Free t3 was 3.5 pmol/l which was lower than the reference range. I have checked the internet and 3.5 seems ok for a 31 year old lady. We are moving to Australia and worried this may effect us getting a visa.

Thyroid Blood tests? I notice everyone always has a TSH done but I just had labs done and my Dr only ordered a T3 Uptake (result 43.5%) ref range 25-35% T4 Total (result 8.7 mcg) ref range 4.5-12.0 and a FTI (result 3.8) ref range 1.3-3.4. She didn't order a TSH. She is telling me that the tests are inconclusive and referred me to an Endo. I've tried looking up all of this on the web but I can't really find anything on just those tests. Help!
Thyroid blood tests - what do they mean? Have been hyperthyroid (Grave's) for two years. Been on various different dosages of carbimazole - ranging from 5 - 40mg per day. Have also had a few breaks from Carbimazole. I am presently on 20mg daily. My blood teats are confusing me and no one has told me what they mean this time - I see my GP in two weeks - he's good at explainig them - but can't wait until then. March 1st 2008 Free T4 = 5 Free T3 = 1.2 TSH = not detected Previous January 28 2008 Free T4 =14 Free T3 = 2.3 TSH not detected. Am I still hyperthyroid? Am I under control? OR am I hypothyroid. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have muscle cramps, fatigue and have put 14lb of weight on in 4 weeks!!! Feeling dreadful. Help Please. Thanks. Ps TSH has always been not detected!!

Do I need frequent thyroid tests to be sure of a problem? I've been having generalized anxiety which started with an anxiety attack two months ago. I've gotten a blood test to check my thyroid but it came out normal. I've heard that you need frequent tests to actually detect an abnormality. Is this true?

CBC & CMP Blood Tests(thyroid problems?)? Do either of these help diagnois a thyroid problem? I tried to get my dr to do the free t3 and t4 but they wont they say the t4 and t3 uptake is the same thing even tho iam on birth control and my t4 came back slightly elevated as did my FTI.They are trying t say I might have hyperthyroidism I just want them to do the necessary tests to make sure but they dont seem to care they just want to send me to this specialist without even knowing 4sure something is wrong. My main concern is my excessive hair loss and I cant get an appt. with the specialist untill august.I had to demand a TSH test and they finally did that but wouldnt budge letting me have the free t3 and t4.Instead the sent me for a cbc and a cmp which I am not really sure is relivant. They did a t4 and t3 uptake and FTI on me first my t4 and fti was sightly elevated.I hen read online bc pills can cause them to be high and read about tsh and the free t4 and free t3 I called and asked my dr to do that but they said it was the same thing.I did however get them to do the tsh and thats when they sent me for the cbc and cmp not exactly sure why tho all i need is tsh-free t4 and free t3.Im starting to think i know more than them..I havent got my tsh back yet.
What should my TSH level be when i have a blood thyroid test completed? In 2002 i had my thyroid checked and it was 5.78, then in 2004 it was 2.28 and in 2005 it was 1.78. I now have every symptom of a underactive thyroid. I am so tired i can't get through the day with at least 2 naps. Just walking a short distance my pulse races and i feel really weak & tired. I am cold, hands & feet are cold and numb, constipation, barely have had a period in 1 1/2 yrs, forgetting things, trouble speaking, puffy eyelids and alot of face swelling & pressure, sore knee joints. I just feel BAD like i just can't even get through each day. Is it normal for my TSH level to drop each year? I am getting really worried.
Thyroid Glands and blood tests? Hi! I recently got blood tests because I had a few lumps on my neck. I go them back a week ago and the blood tests are normal was told to ring back to talk to my doctor about my thyroid glands. Now I rang earlier today and was talking with my doctor who was said my blood tests were normal which she was happy about but wanted to do some more blood tests for my thyroid glands something about them being 'borderline' and higher than normal and about my metabolism. Before I asked because I was worried was it cancer or anything and she said oh! no no, its just to be sure. So I have to book my blood tests for mid-February. I am still really worried, I don't have any symptoms that really suggest anything at all, I guess I just need reassurance. Is my doctor and the blood tests right or am I overreacting to this? I do tend to do that. I'm 22 and pretty healthy.
Thyroid blood test: Normal TSH, slightly lower Free T4, anyone? I am 24 weeks pregnant and my doctor ordered a routine blood test for thyroid. I do not have any problem history or symptom, he told me this is a routine test. The TSH was very normal, while the Free T4 was slightly below the reference values. It should be between 12-22 and it was 11. He said that it is still normal, nothing to worry about. Anyone knows why i had a lower free T4? Any similar experieces?
Can I have a thyroid problem if blood tests are negative? fatigue & night sweats!!? I am a 34 year old female and have had several doctors comment on my large thyroid over the years. I had a blood test done for thyroid problems a year ago. I'm not sure what the exact tests were, but the doctor said my thyroid levels are normal. I've had extreme fatigue and nasty night sweats (almost every night) for about 2 years now. Also, I have a hard time taking off weight and tend to gain easily. I've already had an HIV test done and it was negative. I doubt it's early menopause since my cycles are normal. Can I have a thyroid problem that blood tests didn't detect? Doctor gave me a referral for a thyroid ultrasound, but it's going to be expensive since my insurance isn't very good. I don't want to have an ultrasound done if the blood test already ruled out a thyroid problem. Any suggestions? What doctor specializes in this? Is it an endocrinologist? I feel so low on energy and getting deppressed. I don't want to continue to see my family physician since she probably isn't fully aware of thyroid issues.
Lump on thyroid when all blood tests show no problem? Well, for the last several years, every doctor I have seen has said that I have EVERY sign of thyroid trouble. However, when I have done blood tests they always come back normal. So yesterday I am at the ENT for unrelated issues and he tells me that I need an ultra sound on my thyroid because there is a large lump on it. So why have all the blood tests showed no trouble while there is a lump there. (I can't remember the last time a dr. felt my neck until yesterday) Thanks in advance
I went to the doctor and was told I have an enlarged thyroid. My blood tests came back normal, and...? I am waiting for the results of my thyroid ultrasound. Unfortunatly, I am not finding out the results before the long holiday weekend. What could be wrong with me? I have bumps on my arms, and I had a sore throat last week. I don't know of any other symptoms that I am having. I do get tired, but I have a 9 month old son who still wakes up twice a night, so I should be tired. I am currently trying to have another child. Could this be a problem?
Do normal blood tests pick up HIV infection? I had a series of blood tests done recently for thyroid function, blood sugar etc. There were about 6 separate tests done. All came back within normal limits. Would such tests pick up an abnormality such as HIV infection or at least indicate a problem perhaps exists? Thanks all.
Have all the symptoms of low thyroid but my blood test was normal? Can anyone relate to this? I have many of the classic symptoms of hypothyroidism but I don't have low thyroid. I just got the call that my blood test showed normal. I have been living with these awful symptoms for two years now, what do I do now? Thank you everyone for your responses, very helpful. My symptoms are: very bad muscle aches, headaches, cold intolerance, memory problems, FATIGUE, concentration problems, dry skin, dry hair, low sex drive, and some others I can't think of because of memory problems :-)
I am trying to interpret my thyroid blood test results? I have recently been tested for thyroid condition My results are: TSH - .011 (L) Free t-4 – 1.83 (H) T3 free - 4.35 TSI, ql - 175 (H) What do these results mean? I am not holding anyone to theories but curious what a typical interpretation would be? Grave’s disease? Pituitary? Adrenal fatigue? Hashimoto’s combination? Etc…
How much blood is drawn for a thyroid test? I have to get my thyroid hormones measured. I hate (hate, HATE) needles. Not that people LIKE them, but I have a moderate phobia. How much blood gets drawn for thyroid hormone tests? Is the needle big?

In a normal blood test, do they test you for your thyroid? I had a blood test done like a year and a half ago, it's was like two pages long, and I'm wondering whether they checked my thyroid, because I think my thyroid is overractive (signs point to it). Do they typically check your thyroid in a blood test?
Does anyone know of any other test besides blood test to test for thyroid problems? My husband had 2 docs tell him that he had all the symtoms of thryoid disease before they ran the blood test and when both test came back they were normal. He has heard that there is another test that can be done with a dye as an outpatient, does anyone know what they are talking about? And is there any other problem that mimics thyroid disease?
If you are given a Blood Test for your Thyroid, would they also detect narcotics? I had a blood test for my thyroid, and I had taken vicodin earlier, just wondering if they look for that at all, or if it puts up a red flag, I don't want my doctor to think I'm a pill popper or something. They were prescribed to me for when I got my wisdom tooth pulled. But just curious if they even see that? Also I take adderall, prescribed as well... would that show up too?
symptoms of thyroid problem but negative blood test? Recently had tests for thyroid problems, runs in my family on both sides and have been really cold all the time, putting on weight really quicklyand suffering total energy crashes. Blood tests came back as negative and doctors reaction was to put me on diet pills ....! Do reasonable amount of exercise (netball & rugby) and eat ok so don't think weight is the problem, anyone know something else that causes these things? Am getting fed up with wearing jumpers and sleeping all the time!
thyroid blood test Canada? I have no health insurance and need thyroid blood test (TSH, T4, T3) to be done. How much does it aprox cost? I am in Vancouver, Canada. Is there any possibility of free clinic to do this test?
Thyroid blood test results? I had blood tests to test my thyroid function. I got the lab results today in the mail. It said that my thyroid function is at a 3.48, but that's all it said. I do have a doctors appointment on Tuesday, however, I would like to know what this means now, so I can be better informed when I see the doctor. Thanks. (Please, only answers from people who know what I am talking about, and who know what they are talking about. No points seekers (idk trolls) please) I had all tests done at the same time, along with a 2 hour blood glucouse test, and a few other tests. I am worried that something is wrong, because the blood glucouse results are missing from the lab results paper I was sent, and there is a note from my doctor at the bottom that I be sure to come in for my appointment on Tuesday to disscuss results and treatment options..... I would call the doctor, but they are closed for the weekend.
Enlarged thyroid but my blood thyroid test was normal.? My doctor thought my thyroid might be enlarged. I got an ultrasound and the technician said "Nothing earth shattering here" but that is all they could say without getting in trouble for giving too much info. What can cause it to be enlarged if I don't have a thyroid problem. Could it be thyroid cancer?
Pregnant with elevated thyroid blood test... help!? Im 10weeks pregnant and I got my thyroid blood tests back. My ob said that the results were a bit of a concern and she has booked me into a specialst (waiting list). In the meantime I wanted to get some advice. My levels are: Free T4 22.5 TSH 0.07 T3 4.7 Im mainly concerned with how low TSH is, (normal is .5-5) so it seems a little low. Should i be taking iodene supplements or is that making it worse if I do have something wrong. Also, I have been having heart palpitations, feeling of throat closing in, and chest pain.. but i have been seeing a doctor about this sepearately. im worried that if i do have something it will affect my little baby. Has anyone been pregnant and had similar levels??? please provide your storeis.
THYROID BLOOD TEST, CANCER? My best friend had a blood test for a spider bite she attained. Instead of clearing her, the doctor looked at her blood test results, turned to her mum and said "Is there any people who have had thyroid cancer, in either side of the family, this is a serious question". Being none, my friend asked the doctor why he asked. All he told her was that her blood test was unusual and that she has to have another lood test in a month. WHAT THE HELL?? What could have caused his worry??? My friend is nearly 18 years old. Any replies appreciated.
