How do I go about getting a Hydrogen Breath Test for Carbohydrate Malabsorbtion? Will any docs consider anything other than a lactose intolerance test? Can I get a Fructose or other dissacharide test on the NHS?
reaction to hydrogen breath test for lactose intolerance? My doctor wants me to do this test even though i am almost certain i am lactose intolerant. Will drinking the lactose drink for the test cause me to have a reaction?

Frustrated with doctors, I am in debilitating pain from my "ibs" tested positive on hydrogen breath test? I am 27 year old, and for 5 months I have been in debilitating pain, my ribs/sides hurt so bad, with chronic diarrhea. I was given percocet at one point at an er, it took away my diarrhea and I felt normal for that week. I am so frustrated that the doctors won't write me a presciption for fear that I will become "dependent on it" I feel this is a form of torture, I cannot go about my normal life, working is very difficult now. From the outside I look like a healthy 27 year old, but on the inside I am dying of pain. I tested positive on a hydrogen breath test, which means I may have an overgrowth of bacteria in my small intestine.. I did a round of antibiotics and it helped a bit, but everything has returned. I am so angry that doctors place fear of addiction or the quality of someone's life. I was given tramadol, which only helps to a small extent. What can I do to get the percocet I need?
pain after a Hydrogen Breath Test? its been a day and i still hurt really really bad is this normal?
What does having a high hydrogen count in your breath mean? I recently underwent i hydrogen breath for lactose intolerance, the control test showed that i had i high hydrogen count prior to the test starting. I have yet to receive the results of the actual test but i am curious as to what having a high hydrogen count actually means.
I tested positive on a hydogen breath test, what should I do? I did a hydrogen breath test for bacterial overgrowth, I've been having strange stool and upper right quadrant pain under my rib. At 2.5 hours into the test I blew 24 on the test, then it dropped, and a half hour later blew 26 and test ended. Could this be what has been causing my intermittant back aches and abdominal pain for 4 months? The doctor said I could try rifaximin for a week and see if that helps. Does anyone that has SIBO or IBS know if this will help?
has anyone had a Bacterial Overgrowth Breath Test? What is this test used to diagonose? if anyone who has had this test done suffer from bad breath since hydrogen is released and therefore why the test is being done!
How many Lactaid pills should I take? ok so right now I just recently started taking Lactaid pills because I seem to be feeling better after. (no gas and constipation) I went to the doctor and she did some blood tests and referred me to a GI so I could possibly be tested for lactose intolerance through a hydrogen breath test I believe. my question is since I still feel bad after eating something really small like 3 mini pieces of chocolate should I take like 3 or 4 when I eat something with more lactose in it like pizza? Right now ive been taking 2 and it seems to help with the smaller amounts of lactose in food. I'm afraid if I take 3 or 4 I will have an upset stomach. Theres no way you can overdose on them right?
Hydrogen Peroxide, Salt Water for bad breath? I used to suffer from bulimia and for the past months I had been having some bad breath. I test my breath by licking the back of my wrist and letting it dry well then I smell it. At first I used to smell a bit of a strange smell but I was told to use hydrogen peroxide as well as salt water and after gargling with them I'm really feeling my breath is better and better. I also use an orabrush to brush my tongue and when I smell the back of my wrist I am not smelling anything at all. Do you think my breath is back to normal and can hydrogen peroxide and salt water cure the problem? And one last thing, is it normal to taste a bit of a sour taste after eating something?
Food with no fiber and no dairy? I am going in for a hydrogen breath test and I am not allowed to eat food with fiber or dairy. Does anyone have any ideas for food I can eat for the next 2 days? There has to be absolutely no fiber and no dairy. Thanks! :D
Are you lactose intolerant? "Lactose intolerance is the condition in which lactase, an enzyme needed for proper metabolization of lactose (a sugar that is a constituent of milk and other dairy products), is not produced in adulthood. A lactose tolerance test, a hydrogen breath test, or a stool acidity test is required for a clinical diagnosis. Lactose intolerance can sometimes be confused with milk allergy, the former is a lack of the enzyme lactase, the latter is an autoimmune reaction (usually) to milk proteins. With lactose intolerance, the result of consuming too much lactose is excess gas production, stomach aches and often diarrhea. Most lactose-intolerant adults can drink about 250 ml (8 oz) of milk per day without severe symptoms (McGee 2004; Swagerty et al, 2002)." Source: Wikipedia. Have a Great Day!
will my 3 month old daughter outgrow chronic lactose intolerance? ? my 3 month old daughter has just been diagnosed chronic lactose intolerance. and was wondering will she ever outgrow this. she was diagnosed with a breath hydrogen test. she is still upset in her belly after under going this test 1 week ago. as she had to have lactose to have the test.
Positive for SIBO. Now what? I tested positive with the hydrogen breath test. My dr gave me antibiotics but not much else. If I stick to a diet of rice and rice products, meat and some veggies I seem to be ok. But when I stray and eat "normal" food, I have terrible symptoms. Should I try antibiotics again? Stick to this restrictive diet while on the antibiotics. OD on probiotics afterwards? Has anything worked for anyone?
Could I possibly have candida overgrowth, I am 27 and cant get diagnosis? I have gone through numerous tests due to my abdominal pains, they radiate to my sides and rear ribs, the general mood that describes me is "very uncomfortable" as in my body always feels that way in the torso area. I never could imagine a pain lasting for so long, only letting up a a few hours a day (but not even all the way) or when sleeping. Thank god I have great insurance, I look very healthy from the outside, but on the inside the pain is constant in the background, when it flares up sometimes I feel like life is not worth living. Here are all the tests I have had: ct scan when this all started in june- normal Ct scan with contrast 3 months in - normal Ct scan with contrast again 6 months later - normal mri of abdomen/liver/pelvis with gado contrast 6 months into this- normal abdominal ultrasound - normal Hida scan with cck - 83% ejection fraction rib xray - normal small bowel follow through - normal (possible intestinal spasming seen) hydrogen breath test - spiked twice at 2.5 and 3 hours (abnormal?) cbc and various blood work - normal except elevated ferritin 386, elevated alt liver enzymes 141, elevated total and indirect bilirubin ~2.2 (they say I have gilbert's syndrome which causes elevated bilirubin?) colonoscopy 3rd month - normal endoscopy 3rd month - normal mri of thoracic spine - normal hepatitis panels - normal tsh thyroid test - normal vitamin b12 test - normal celiac test - normal camera endoscopy - normal various stool tests - normal The only relief I get is from using magnesium citrate (a laxative) and dulcolax (a stimulant laxative) Then after 24 hours of not eating, when I am completely empty I start to feel better.. but very fatigued because I am hungry. Could it be possible that candida overgrowth could be causing my symptoms? Has anyone that had candida overgrowth in their intestines and overcome it, and do my symptoms sound similar? I am also constantly suffering from a whitish tongue and bad breath (the dentist says my mouth is fine though) I have been taking these peppermint oil pills lately and I notice 4 hours after taking them I can taste the peppermint in my mouth, like it is in my blood stream. Could this be that "leaky gut syndrome" that is caused by candida? The only test I ever tested positive on was that hydrogen breath test that spiked twice at the end, for possibly bacterial overgrowth in my small intestine. I did a round of rifaximin, but it was only minimally helpful. Most doctors say I don't have candida because my immune system is not compromised and I do not have aids. What do you think?
Question for doctors? I have been a ibs sufferer for quite some time but about a year ago I started to suffer from a bad body odor like rotten eggs, a bit like when someone passes wind. I have also sensed a bitter taste in my mouth. I read from this doctor that if you have too much bad bacteria in the gut it can cause a bad odor to come out in your breath. Also many ibs sufferers who have a Hydrogen Breath test usually test positive for a small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Do they do Hydrogen Breath tests in the UK and do you think it's possible that too much bad bacteria in the gut can cause a person to have a bad odor? Thanks
Please help, I am 27, I have been in pain for 6 months.. I feel like i'm going to die sometimes? I know this is long, but if you are knowledgeable about this stuff please read through it. Last time I didn't get one answer and it really brought my hopes down. I have been in chronic pain for 6 months now. I was afraid I would become one of these stories I was reading about in the first 2 months on the internet, now it looks like I am. I used to socially binge drink once a month, I am not that overweight, overall a healthy male. I never thought something like this would happen to me. It all started in June and the symptoms have kind of changed over the coarse of 6 months, but the more tests I do, the less I know. It is always confined to my torso area. I have pain usually in my rear ribs (sometimes achy, sometimes burning), intermittent every hour. (sometimes on the left, sometimes on right) I know this pain is not really from my actual ribs, but it referred from some internal organ, because it will subside within 5 minutes. I will also get a very deep achy feeling on my front right side. (it lasted the entire month of august). This feeling really makes me depressed. It kills my spirits. The pains I have sometimes wakes me up at night from being so achy. The doctors think I have IBS, but I read online that it doesn't fit the criteria of ibs (pains that wake you up at night are not ibs it says.) If this is ibs, I do not wish this upon anyone. The only relief I get are from strong painkillers (like oxy ir), but the relief only last for an hour or so then the pain comes right back. Doctors also don't like writing prescriptions for this because of the "ibs" diagnosis so I am forced to deal with the pain. After my first ct scan 6 months ago, I was told I had IBS and no further testing was needed. Well, I found out this wasn't true, and that ibs is a diagnosis of exclusion, so I have undergone numerous tests (doing my own research and making requests, getting turned down, changing doctors) Thankfully I have good insurance, but have a HUGE deductable. This sickness is taking a toll on my relationship with my fiancee, financially, and in my computer repair business. I am always complaining about the pain and she is getting very tired of it. I am starting to cry from the sadness now every few days. Here are my results: ct scan when this all started in june- normal Ct scan with contrast 3 months in - normal Ct scan with contrast again 6 months later - normal mri of abdomen/liver/pelvis with gado contrast 6 months into this- normal abdominal ultrasound - normal Hida scan with cck - 83% ejection fraction rib xray - normal small bowel follow through - normal (possible intestinal spasming seen) hydrogen breath test - spiked twice at 2.5 and 3 hours (abnormal?) cbc and various blood work - normal except elevated ferritin 386, elevated alt liver enzymes 141, elevated total and indirect bilirubin ~2.2 (they say I have gilbert's syndrome which causes elevated bilirubin?) colonoscopy 3rd month - normal endoscopy 3rd month - normal mri of thoracic spine - normal hepatitis panels - normal tsh thyroid test - normal vitamin b12 test - normal celiac test - normal I have tried increasing my fiber for a few weeks, cutting out dairy, wheat, fasting for days (made no difference in the pain at all during the 2 days) nothing is working! The doctors are starting to think I have an anxiety/mental problem causing this, but I don't and my fiance agrees. I occasionally will go 5-6 hours pain-free, but then the pain will suddenly come on in my sides/ribs again. I did give in to one doctor who told me to try clonazepam for anxiety for a month and I did. It made absolutely no difference but make me tired with the pain. I just want the pain to go away most of the time, and to get back to my regular life before June. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I obviously have something that is very difficult to diagnose, and I don't know if its ibs, but I know it is torture and If it weren't for the few hours of relief I get when it subsides, I don't know if I would want to live. If you have any ideas please help me. I don't know if it is worth mentioning, but I have had a muscle in my left thoracic back that went into spasm since this all started in june. Could this be affecting my small intestines? It is always bulging out when I bend over, but no real pain from it.
Abdominal pain, relief from laxatives, pain comes back 3 hours after eating? I have had this for 6 months. The only relief I get from this is not eating for a day, and taking laxatives. But my small intestines have to be empty too for the pain to go away! I have been having orangish stools since this all started back in june, I am not sure if this has anything to do with it. I've had numerous tests: ct scan when this all started in june- normal Ct scan with contrast 3 months in - normal Ct scan with contrast again 6 months later - normal mri of abdomen/liver/pelvis with gado contrast 6 months into this- normal abdominal ultrasound - normal Hida scan with cck - 83% ejection fraction rib xray - normal small bowel follow through - normal (possible intestinal spasming seen) hydrogen breath test - spiked twice at 2.5 and 3 hours (abnormal?) cbc and various blood work - normal except elevated ferritin 386, elevated alt liver enzymes 141, elevated total and indirect bilirubin ~2.2 (they say I have gilbert's syndrome which causes elevated bilirubin?) colonoscopy 3rd month - normal endoscopy 3rd month - normal mri of thoracic spine - normal hepatitis panels - normal tsh thyroid test - normal vitamin b12 test - normal celiac test - normal After the day of laxatives and not eating, I ate today and it seems the pain in my sides and rear ribs comes back 3 hours after eating. Sometimes I can feel it in my upper middle abdomen, but not today. It is almost like a burning irritation in my sides and rear ribs today. Any ideas?
IBS or bacterial/candida overgrowth? From much research I have done I have discovered from scientific research that there seems to be a big connection between IBS symptoms and bacterial/candida overgrowth. I am a little frustrated at why most doctors do not take bacterial/candida overgrowth into consideration. Most doctors just tell their IBS patients, "Just take antispasmodics and change your diet." As a result many people have suffered with IBS for years and later discovered that they had bacterial/candida overgrowth. Sometimes it can be due to too many bad toxins in the colon. One guy with IBS didn't get relief until after 20 years. He had a detox and cleaned out the bad crap inside his intestines and his IBS symptoms improved dramatically. After 20 years no doctor helped him. He had to find this out himself. Why do doctors just stick their head in the sand and say, "Ah, IBS is caused by spasms, just take antispasmodics and change your diet." Bacterial/candida overgrowth can cause Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, bad breath, post nasal drip, feeling unwell, feeling irritable, wind, bloating, constipation, abdomen pain, itchy skin, and much more.....And scientists have now discovered that the majority of IBS sufferers who have a Hydrogen Breath Test usually test positive for bacterial overgrowth. It's the bad bacteria or candida overgrowth that can cause all these IBS symptoms. Are doctors not up to date with this?
My colon looks HUGE in the ct scan pic? Please help, I've been having aches on my right side for months. All tests "normal". Well I got a copy of my ct scan and did the 3d view and my ascending colon looks HUGE. It was never this big in previous scans. I know it is full of stool, but this is ridiculous, it looks like it might be putting pressure on my liver (I have elevated liver enzymes for some reason) Why did they say the test was normal? What can I do to fix this? Here is picture: www.rumorpress.net/colon.jpg tests done: hida scan cck - normal 83% ejection abdominal ultrasound - normal ct scan with contrast - "normal" colonoscopy and endoscopy - normal hydrogen breath test - positive I usually pass a stool at least once every 2 days, but it is definitely different than it ever was before. Any ideas for me to overcome this would be appreciated!

I just found out i'm lactose intolerant..? I went 8 friken months with the worst stomach pains/dhiarrea you could imagine not knowing what was wrong with me. went to the GI in October and she did a blood test and thats it !.. FINALLY after all the pain for 8 long months i get a hydrogen breath test that came back positive before it was even over.. could i sue the doc for pain & suffering since she didnt do enough testing ? im really PO'd.. i mean i had something that i could control for this long if onml;y i knew what i had 8 MONTHS AGO ! green, your disgusting you obviouisly dont understand what i went through for 8 months.. i may even have cystic fibrosis go fuckkk yourself! mmmkay?
so0o i just found out...? yesterday morning that i'm lactose intolerant i went 8 months with the pain and diarhea not knowing what i had... im scheduled for an endoscopy on tuesday but the doc said i wouldnt have to get it if i foiund out i was lactose intolerant my stomach is still hurting and i havent had lactose since the pure lactose drink i took for the hydrogen breath test at 9am yesterday is it normal for me to still have stomach pains/ diarrhea should i do the endoscopy anyway?.. & what illnesses does this test for?
A question about ibs? For nearly 9 years I have been led to believe I have ibs, and for quite some time I have felt sluggish and unwell. But recent study has made me look at other possibilities. I have discovered that many people who thought they had ibs actually had bacterial overgrowth, celiac disease, candida overgrowth, too many bad toxins in the colon, leaky gut syndrome. I have come across people who found relief from their ibs after having a powerful colon cleanser or treatment for bacterial overgrowth. It seems that doctors don't often rule out these things. If the blood test comes back normal the doctors just say, "Ah, ibs" Recent studies show that many people with ibs have bacterial overgrowth. It seems that the majority of people with ibs who have a hydrogen breath test show abnormal results. It is now becoming a strong theory that the intestinal muscles in ibs cause the bad bacteria to get the upper hand. As a result the bad bacteria may produce excess gas, constipation, abdomen pains, and other symptoms. However, there are other things that can cause ibs symptoms so why are doctors so quick to rule out ibs?
im terrified right now...? Hi, i'm 16 & yesterday I had a hydrogen breath test and it came back positive meaning im lactose intolerant... i've been researching it and many sites say if you are not born with this, but develop it later in life it could be caused by different stomach diseases such as cystic fibrosis because this disease causes your body to stop producing the lactase that digests lactose... now i'm scared out of my mind that I have cystic fibrosis because i eliminated dariy, and my sotmach still hurts and i get mucus in my stool. what to do? Webmd **WebMd explains the cystic fibrosis causing lactose intolerance ** I'm scheduled for an endoscopy on tuesday, what problems does this test for? and will they be able to tell if i have cystic fibrosis with this test?
can you tell me whats wrong? idk if this will help but here are some things that have been occuring ive been really tired ive gotten dizzy/lightheaded after i eat my stomach will hurt sometimes a lot not sure if im just cranky but i think ive gotten more irritable i have gotten a breath hydrogen test and a blood test both found nothing can you help me out? also im a 14 year old boy if that helps, and im pretty happy also i have had a huge appetite lately

Will doctors detect weed? x? Heyah i think i have IBS so i am having the following tests too rule out anything else: Investigations are performed to exclude other conditions: Stool microscopy and culture (to exclude infectious conditions) Blood tests: Full blood examination, Liver function tests, Erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serological testing for coeliac disease Abdominal ultrasound (to exclude gallstones and other biliary tract diseases) Endoscopy and biopsies (to exclude peptic ulcer disease, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, malignancies) Hydrogen breath testing (to exclude fructose and lactose malabsorption) ^^ is there any chance the doctors could find traces of drugs during these tests?? x
lactose intolerant test? i like almost defeniate im lactose intolerant and i dont eat anything with dairy in it anymore but the doctor wants me to get the breath test... i was told u drink sugar water and it measures hydrogen.. but do i have to have somethign with dairy in it.. or no?

Cure for Bad Breath?????? used to suffer from bulimia and for the past months I had been having some bad breath. Gaseous state questions? Any Chemistry expert??Please -please help??Would be appreciated?have test!!? Q1. At 27C,H2 is leaked through a small hole into a vessel for 20 minutes.Another unknown gas under identical conditions is leaked for the same time. After effusion, the gaseous mixture exerts a pressure of 6 atm.If the H2 content of the mixture is 0.7 mole and the volume of container is 3 litre, ehat is the molecular mass of unknown gas?? Q2. Assuming ideal gas behavior, how many atoms of Ar are contained in human breath of 0.5 litre at 37 C and 1 atm pressure.Air consists of 1% Ar atoms.Assuming that argon atoms from the last breath of Plato have been distributed randomly throughout the atmosphere(5 * 10^18 m^3) how long would it take to breath one of these atoms if breath rate is 10/minute. Q3. 24 ml of water gas containing only hydrogen and carbon monoxide (in equal proportions by volume) are exploded with 80 ml of air,20% by volume of which is oxygen. If all the gaseous volumes are measured at room temperature and pressure, calculate the composition by volume of the resulting gaseous mixture. PLEASE PLEASE SHOW THE WORKING....AND HELP IF YOU KNOW ANY QUESTION..THANKS!!!

Science Fair Project Question? Hi, I need three substances to test out for my science fair project. This is what I have down so far: Question: Does the amount of oxygen in breath spray, isopropyl alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide affect each of its level of reactivity when combusted? If so, which of the following will launch the highest? I'm not quite sure if my three substances: breath spray, isopropyl alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide are good substances to test out. Could you please provide me with better suggestions as to what I should test? Thank you! :)
What's wrong with me? I have been having chronic stomach pains for the past 6 months and have been to the doctor many times, had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and breath hydrogen. I feel like I'm right on the verge of being sick all the time, I have weird symptoms like lightheadedness, pale skin hot and cold flashes. Just generally feeling bad all the time. I've had many blood tests, all coming up negative except for h. Pylori which in the endoscopy proved to be absent. I am suffering through more stress than you can imagine. I am a 14 year old boy. Please help
for people good with chemistry? how can i test for 'Hydrogen gas' and 'carbon dioxide gas' im thinking the answer is "if you can breath in it" but im not that sure

Chronic Canker Sores? I have increasingly been getting canker sores for the past 6 months. Outbreaks only give me one week of rest in between often lasting anywhere from 3-5 weeks at a time. Outbreaks vary in diameter and number. The sores are located solely on the INSIDE of my lower lip, gums, and tongue. Other possible symptoms (related or not): frequent bowel movements, loss of appetite, decreased sex drive I have been to several doctors. Done several labs, blood tests. I have been prescribed the following: Prilosec, Valtrex, and B12 (sub-lingually and interveineous) Remedially I have tried: salt water, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, lysine, Canker Covers, milk of magnesia, low acid diet, SLS Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free toothpaste. I do have a B12 deficiency. I am a college student. 18 years old. High-stress, low sleep. However, even on breaks with a minimal workload and sufficient sleep, there is no lapse in outbreaks. My sister has an autoimmune disease (JRA). I also wear orthodontic retainers at night that cause irritation. Conditions I am considering: Celiac Disease, Crohn's disease, gluten allergy I am really sick of this, I can't eat, talk, breath, brush my teeth, etc. Please help.
