Blood Drug Testing

Drug Test by testing Saliva?

I am not trying to pass a drug test, just trying to find some info. I had never heard of a saliva drug test before, and when my fiance get hired at Lowes they did one. The lady told him it could test for years back and was highly accurate. Well, it must not test all THAT far back. But anyway. I thought it was just a bluff since she told him to "not waste my time and leave if you have done any drugs in the last 3 years." But since then I have been trying to find some info on them. When I google all I get is companies trying to sell me a kit to pass the test. Does anyone have any good facts on these? What chemical does it test for? Is there drug residue stored in salivary glands? Again, don't tell me not to use drugs, I don't. I am just curious and looking for some good info. Thanks!

  1. Hmm...Salvia...I remember the first time I did Salvia...see, the reason salvia works is there's a type of chemical in it related to THC and the pychedelics in mushrooms and acid. The effects of salvia are only short lived, the maximum 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure that salvia isn't testable THAT far back, because even chronic marijuana users can be clean after 30 days.
  2. If they test hair, they can go back quite a long time. And yes, salvia can be tested for in hair.
  3. Saliva / oral fluid-based drug tests can generally detect use during the previous few days. Saliva or oral fluid based drug tests are becoming more prevalent because of their convenience and the fact that they can not be adulterated. Furthermore, on-site oral based tests in particular enable the implementation of random testing programs, proven to be the most effective type of drug screening. Oral fluid based tests are as accurate as urine and can be obtained from quality suppliers in the United States. Testing is usually performed by employers, for either pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, or return-to-duty testing. Oral fluid based testing most closely mimics results found with blood and is preferable for detecting on-the-job drug use or in post-accident applications in this case because the degree of intoxication can be approximated based on the amount of substance in the blood. The Victorian Police in Australia are also using random saliva-tests to detect drivers under the influence of amphetamines and cannabis.
  4. most drugs stay in the blood 4 at least 1 month.trust!
  5. the only saliva test I could think of is, if you have saliva you did not smoke pot, if you don't saliva you did smoke pot, that's how I'm going to bust my kids, they can never get anything by me.
  6. I wont tell you not to do drugs, you sound sensible enough. I have never heard of a saliva drug test, it sounds ridiculous to me. You may know that drugs are stored in adipose (fat) cells in your body, and can be detected in urine for a medium amount time, and in the blood for years. After some research, I found saliva tests exist, are accurate, and only detect a few days back.
  7. This sounds kind of fishy to me. I have never heard of saliva being tested for anything except DNA testing. I think she is either messing with your fiance or she has no idea what she is talking about. A urine sample is what is required for drug testing.
  8. The collection of oral fluid is a noninvasive means of collecting a suitable specimen for analysis for drugs of abuse. In a matter of minutes, the sample is produced with direct observation that is not gender dependent. The sample is secured in a container that can be labeled and chain of custody precautions applied. The oral fluid sample provides a good indication of recent drug use. Most drugs are present in the saliva for 2-4 days after use. This corresponds to the approximate times that the drugs are detected in the urine except for THC and PCP. Because THC and PCP are fat soluble, these drugs remain in the body longer and can be detected in the urine sometimes for weeks after usage. Thus, only recent use of THC and PCP can be detected in the oral fluid. Since the levels of drugs are much lower in the oral fluid (saliva), different methodologies of testing are necessary to detect the drugs. The screening method is ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and the confirmation of positives is done by GC/MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry).
  9. it also takes cells from the inside of your cheeks...it is acutally accurate, but not as accurate and urine or hair. From what I hear it is easier to pass or cheat it. Good luck
