Why would you do a urine sample with a blood test checking your rubella level?
Hi. I was at the doctor the other day asking about whether or not it would be fine to go ahead in a couple of months time to start trying for a second baby. My little girl is one in April. He said yes and did I want to do the pre-pregnancy blood tests checking my rubella level etc. I said yes. He printed out the pathology form and said just when you're ready get them done. When I went today to do them I was asked to do a urine test as well. I didn't do that the first time around. Just wondering what it tested for? Thanks!

- to make sure your not pregnant because if you were and needed the rubella booster shot it could hurt the baby. And it was also done to check for a UTI that needed treatment before you attempted to get pregnant. Also maybe to get a baseline on your protein levels and sugar levels so they have something to compare during your pregnancy. I did not do the prepreg test and found out I did not have the rubella antibodies when I was 4 months along and I had to be extra careful to not come in contact with anyone who might have the measles including my hubby at one point(thank god it was only a severe reaction to poison ivy) (not that I was glad he was sick but still my baby was safe) and had to get the shot before I could hold my newborn after he was born.
