Blood Drug Testing

Can a urine test for pregnancy test pick up diabetes?

Just wondering because my family always meant to have me tested but never bothered and a few months ago i had a urine test for pregnancy so if i had diabetes would it have picked it up or just tested for whatever you test for for pregnancy? They tested me in hospital btw.

  1. Not used for that. You need another urine analysis.
  2. Just for pregnancy, Not for diabetes.
  3. It would pick up high levels of sugar if they want to check for it
  4. No. There are different urine tests for HCG, which is used to test for pregnancy, and glucose, which is an indicator for diabetes. If glucose shows up in urine you would need at least one further blood test to confirm or rule out diabetes.
  5. no
  6. No. urine tests are NOT good for picking up diabetes. urine tests for diabetes are WAAAYYY too inaccurate. The OLD way was with urine tests, but technology has greatly improved. Only aging doctors use a urine test. the best test now is called A1C. This measures an average of your blood dugars over the last three months. Sicne it measure an average, it takes into account the normal highs and lows that oftten cause mis-readings and bad diagnosis. And since it is an average, you do not have to fast before you take the test! The A1C test is also fast and relatively cheap. ASK the doctor to do one, and discuss the results with you.
  7. when they do a pregnancy test they only test the urine for that, they cant really test your urine for diabetes, they can however test to see if you are spilling glucose into your urine, if you have no health problems then you should have no glucose in your urine, if you do you could be diabetic, but there are a few other things such as thyroid probs. urine tests in cases of diabetes are done preliminarily, there will need to be follow up with bloodwork if the test shows anything suspicious
