Blood Drug Testing

Could a blood test be accurate for pregnancy after only 1 week of unprotected sex?

Ok, my hubby and I had been having unprotected sex on the 12th, 13th and 14th of October, which would have been my ovulation time. My doctor gave me a blood test yesterday which was the 20th and it came back negative. Could I still be pregnant?

  1. After conception, it takes about a week for the embryo to travel to the uterus and implant in the uterus. Until implantation, the pregnancy hormones that a blood test looks for isn't even getting produced yet. So basically you've tested WAY too early. You need to wait until AF it due before testing.
  2. I got a negative test when I was 2 weeks late for my period, went back a week later and got a positive. Yes you still could be,
  3. If you had got a positive result then it would be accurate but a negative result "could" be a result of testing too early. Implantation tends to happen between 7 - 10 (sometimes a bit longer) days after ovulation and then you need to wait for the hormone levels to reach a measurable level. I would wait another week and test on a home pregnancy test or get another blood test. Good luck!
  4. Yah you could still be pregnant
  5. A blood test is much more accurate then a home pregnancy test, but you must remember that your hormone levels are just now beginning to rise, so I feel that yes, there is still a chance you could be pregnant. Did you discuss this with your doctor? These are questions you need to ask him or her, but just wait to see if you miss your period. It might be best to start a prenatal vitamin if you have not done so already and do not drink alcohol, use illegal drugs of any kind, or use any unnecessary prescriptions or over the counter drugs. I would schedule another appointment in 3 weeks for a second blood test. By then your hormone levels should be high enough to detect a pregnancy. Good luck!!!
  6. When i was almost a week late, i went for a blood test and asked my doctor same question... she said blood test can determine actual results 2-3 days before your periods. So i also think that it was a bit early for you to have a test. Wait at least until you are 1 day late and then repeat the test, i hope you will get your results. Lots and lots of baby dusts to you!!!!
  7. Most likely not. If conception is going to occur after sex, it usually takes 7 - 10 days for this to happen. And most doctors won't perform a blood test unless there is a medical reason to do so. Good Luck.
