Blood Drug Testing

Why is my Betta fish going from white to black?

My Betta has been a white colored fish it's entire life. Nothing has changed in the tank that it is in, I do regular water changes, the water is heated, and I test water chemistry. I also feed it frozen blood worms and flake food. But as time goes by, more and more scales on the sides of the fish turn from white to black. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?????

  2. your fishes just change colors when they grow my fishes do that and i have a 8 fishes
  3. Fish changing colors is nothing unusual, especially since we're talking about a betta. Sometimes, the fish will have the gene for a certain color but it will not show until it matures or grows older. Such is the case in most bettas, since they come in such a variety of colors and the ones at the pet shops do not have the purest strains. If all is well, the gills, fins, eyes, and scales are all healthy, your betta is moving and eating normally, it's nothing to be concerned about. =]
  4. Some Bettas, not many, change their color as they get older, and slowly keep changing. I had a royal blue one with red ventral fins. After I'd had him for a few months, he developed a white spot on his tail, then on his upper and lower fins. The white spots grew, changed to light pink, then changed to mottled blue and pink. It was interesting to see. The changes were slow, taking a few weeks to notice a difference. Over the year, he looked very different from from when I got him. Another lady's fish was red, and hers changed so much she said he didn't look like the same fish anymore, and was still changing his colors. The fish were perfectly healthy. It's a genetic thing. As long as your fish well cared for, there is no problem. Maybe you should take pictures every few weeks, so you can compare them?
  5. fish puberty. ha ha, its growing its completely normal don't worry.
  6. I have a Crowntail Betta that was White with a Blue head and red trimming at the end of the fins when I got him, now that he is 2 years old he has red fines and but the body and head are still the same.
