Blood Drug Testing

Does a medical physical generally include (see list)?

First off, insurance usually covers physicals, right? Aside from a possible co-pay? Here's the list, if anyone knows if these are generally included, it'd be great to know. -Ova and parasite stool test -Cryptosporidium stool test -Stool culture: Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio, Yersinia, Aeromonas, Staphylococcus aureus and Campylobacter -18 (approx.) panel blood chemistry hematology (CBC) -Tetanus vaccine -Tuberculosis test -Rubeola ("regular") measles vaccination (don't people get these shots when they are babies usually?) -Hepatitis B test To satisfy any possible curiousity out there, I'm getting a job working with animals that requires these tests so I don't transmit anything to them. If any of these aren't included in a standard physical, any tricky ideas on how I could get my insurance to pay for it? Thanks.

  1. The only physical exams that are considered required in a yearly exam are: Blood pressure check Pap smear (for women) Everything else is based on any symptoms or history reported by the patient, so if a patient had no symptoms and gave a benign history (like 90% of people out there), these would be the only things the doctor need do.
  2. Coverage varies. You would be advised to call your health care insurer. Two comments: when you get the tetanus booster, get it as Td, (with diphtheria); and ask why you need another measles vaccine. You probably already had two. The reason may relate to canine distemper which is caused by a similar virus.
