What kinds of blood tests does the doctor do during a physical?
I'm going in for my physical soon, and they said they will draw blood samples too. I think they said one of them is for cholesterol. What other blood tests do they normally do? Is blood sugar level one of them? What else do they usually test for?
Public Comments
- Although blood tests vary from doctor to doctor, they generally include: screening for diabetes (glucose, fructosamine, hemoglobin A1C) screening for kidney problems (BUN, Creatinine) screening for liver problems (Bilirubin, AP, AST, ALT, GGT) screening for blood lipids (Chloresterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides) screening for blood proteins (Protein, Albumin, Globulin)
- Usually a CBC (complete blood count) is done. Most tests won't be done unless specifically asked for (Example: HIV won't be done, unless you consent to it)
