Blood Drug Testing

How could a pregnancy show up positive on blood test and not urine test if you're over a week late?

If there isn't enough hCG in your unine to show positive on a urine pregnancy test does that mean that your body will soon reject the baby as a miscarraige because you're not producing enough of the hormone needed to sustain a healthy pregnancy?

  1. no not at all. you just may not have enough hcg in your urine. its common.
  2. not all of the urine tests will work... blood tests are a lot more accurate then the urine test any time
  3. Some girls never show up pregnant in a urine test and have healthy babies
  4. YES, blood test are more accurate than a urine test. Doesn't mean that you will miscarry.
  5. keep in mind that blood tests are WAY more accurate than at home pregnancy tests. if your doc was concerned when you get a blood test he would have told you
  6. not always... I had the same issue I had several negatives at home and once I went it my blood showed positive.... and while low hcg levels are supposed to point to a miscarriage it can also mean your body just doesn't produces as much as everyone else it happens... relax and congrats
  7. not all of the urine tests will work... blood tests are a lot more accurate then the urine test any time
  8. Nope, the HCG levels in your blood could be higher than in your urine.
  9. OMG! NO! why on earth would you think that? A blood test is just more reliable and shows first! Quit, you will make yourself and the baby nuts if you keep thinking on these lines!!!
  10. Not necessarily. HCG levels vary greatly in early pregnancy. What's most important is that they double every 2-3 days. If your doctor is concerned, he/she will order a second blood test so that they can see if your levels are rising normally. Good luck! PS: I had *very* low HCG levels for my firstborn. So low, in fact, that my OBGYN was convinced I would miscarry. He did a follow up blood test two days later and they doubled. :) My son is now a lovely healthy 6 year old.
  11. nah thats perfectly normal, sometimes u just dont have enough of the pregnancy hormone hcg in your urine to show up on a urine test which sometimes dont recognise small amounts of this chemical. However blood tests are very capable at picking up small amounts which explains why it showed up positive.. Dont worry =]
  12. No it means that there is not enough hCG yet to show up in your urine. If you take another pee test next week it will probably show up then. Don't worry...all is well and CONGRATULATIONS...mommy!
  13. my friend took hpt for 10 days before one showed she was pregnant. she is now 1 cm dialated and effaced a little bit. so it doesnt mean that you will have an unhealthy pregnancy, just that there wasnt enough hormone in your urine. no big deal.
  14. Um, idk that's scary..mines not showing up either
  15. HCG is more concentrated in blood than it is in urine, which is why if you're anxious to know you should have a blood test done rather than waiting for a positive on the HPT. Some of those HPTs measure at a higher level than would be detected at this stage of the pregnancy. There are lots of things that can go wrong when taking a HPT, but if you got a + from a blood test taken by a medical professional, that is your true result. Don't worry about it, celebrate it! Good luck!
  16. i have same answer, my son is now 12.5, very healthy, and the first two home pregnancy (urine) tests were negative. at about 3-4 weeks, they started to be positive, or 2 weeks after i had the blood test. i've embarrassed myself at my age (49) asking for blood tests a couple of times, so at this point urine test strips are cheaper and less painful (!) based on my first positive pregnancy, i would not rush to the lab for another blood test unless i already have a positive urine, its a difference for me of waiting another 2 weeks before i make any potentially embarrasing statements
