Would taking a normal blood test (just for a general checkup) detect that i'm on BIRTH CONTROL?
My mother wants to take me to a doctor for an all over check up including a blood test to make sure i'm healthy, but i'm currently taking birthcontrol pills..would she find out? I'm 23 but she would disown me if she found out...would the doctor tell her? Does the blood test detect that?

- No, there is no blood test for birth control pills.
- Your mother is not allowed to read the blood test or know anything about you medical situation unless you say yes. Its called patient confidentiality, its illegal for the doctor to release any information of yours without consent, especially since you are 23. However if she pays your insurance, she can call the insurance company and ask about a certain charge(like your BC pills if you use your parents insurance to pay), and they can tell her what it is since its her policy.
- You are an adult and the doctor cannot tell her legally. Besides why would she even have access to your results?
- just don't sign the paper to share your health info with her your doctor can not legally tell your mother anything w/out you giving him/her consent
- since your 23 you could speak to the doctor in private and ask him not to mention if it does show up or not. good luck :)
- OK sweetie the answer is no it won't show in your regular blood test and the second answer is NO the doctor will not TELL your mother!!!! Ever hear of HIPPA? You are a GROWN woman for goodness sake's! These sound like the questions of a 15 year old girl on the pill... I seriously question as to whether you should be sexually active even at the age of 23 if you can't cut the apron strings enough to one, go to the doctor by yourself, two make your own informed medical decisions about your own body, and three care SOOO much about what your mother will do to an adult woman when she finds out she is taking a medication prescribed by a doctor.
- they dont check for that. so no they wont know. and its confidential they couldnt tell your mom anyway
- Just tell your mom, Geez.
- you're 23-- the doctor cannot disclose information to her that you do not want the doctor to say-- that would be a violation of privacy and doctor/patient rights. you can pull the doctor aside, or call a couple days before and ask the person on the phone line to leave a message for the doctor explaining the situation. this way, the doc will already know not to mention anything that might indicate you're on birth control (it depends what BC you're on-- if it will show up in blood tests [yaz and potassium, for example]).
- don't think it shows up in a blood test. not to mention you aren't a minor so your mom doesn't get the results, only you would.
- im not sure if the blood test could detect that but unless shes with you when the doctor tells you your results the doctor cant tell her without your consent because of doctor patient confidentiality
- Your doctor has an obligation to protect your privacy. You should tell him not to let your mother know. You are 23 years old and you need to start being an independent woman. Tell your mother that you will arrange for your own medical check ups and that you are a big girl now. Don't let her pay for your stuff anymore and she won't have any 'power' over you.
- No, the doctor will not tell her...you are the patient. Your mother does not have to TAKE you to the doctor...good lord, you are an adult. IF your mother is in the room with you the doctor is not bound by confidentiality because a third person is in the room. Is this the doctor who is supplying your birth control? You can always tell your Mom you are an adult and you don't want to go to the doctor when she tells you. I don't remember general blood tests ever addressing birth control.
- No the blood test would not show this. Even if it did, the doctor doesn't have a right to go into specifics about your results with someone else. Basic blood tests results identify deficiencies in your system in terms of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Most also identify your blood cholesterol and abnormalities.
- no, estrogen is produced by your body as are all the hormones in pills, so don't worry, they won't be able to tell if your body produced it or you got it from pills... at your age, the results are confidential
