What does ALANINE AMINOTR and ASPARTATE AMINO blood tests and what does it mean if they come back low?
I had a wide variety of blood tests done. My ANA came back positive speckled 1:320 and homogeneous 1:640. I know that is related to lupus.. My ALANINE AMINO TR came back at 26 which was low and ASPARTATE AMINO came back at 14 which was low. Can anyone elaborate on what these mean?

- ALT and AST are liver function biomarkers used to measure the health of your liver. In liver disease, these enzymes which are normally inside the liver cells are spilled into the blood circulation as liver cells die causing increased values in blood tests. Low ALT and AST are very good
- AST and ALT are liver enzyme tests. they aren't really related to lupus. They can be elevated when lupus attacks the liver and also due to the medications that many lupus patients have to take. Being too low can be a problem but yours seem in the low normal range. As far as your ANA goes i don't understand why you have two different ones. You either have a speckled or a homogeneous and one ratio with it. Basically what the number means is the amount of times the split the sample and still saw a positive result this is why an ANA reads...1:40, 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280....A 1:320 is considered a high positive. Why do you have two ratios? This doesn't make sense unless you had two different tests run at different times. Sometimes the labs can be a little different. An ANA test isn't specific for Lupus. It's a test used to show that an auto immune disease is present. However, it doesn't say which one. There is no one blood test for lupus. Many blood tests are needed to help nail down a diagnosis. Even when they all come back negative you can still have lupus. An Anti-DS-DNA test would be helpful as would an Anti-SM, Anti-RO, C3, C4, IGg, IGa.
