Can diabetes be detected in an HIV blood test?
I'm a 21 year old male. I was tested for STDs about half a year ago and that included a blood test. I came back negative for HIV. My question is, can the doctors or lab technicians, whomever it was that analyzed my blood sample, also notice high sugar levels in my blood even if they are looking for signs of HIV?

- Not in the same test, no. The HIV test usually uses this test: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELISA There's no particular reason why they should notice high blood sugar. They often do a variety of tests from one blood sample though.
- Lab techs only test by doctors' order. If they see "FBS" ordered they'll be checking for Blood Glucose Level (sugar); if HIV is ordered, that is what they look for (not glucose).
- HIV test search for HIV antibodies in the blood stream and the chemical used to find it affects the composition of other elements in the blood. So a blood sample used to test for HIV can not be re-used again.
- no...HIV tests test for HIV antibodies...it is as simple as that
