I'm wondering if anyone knows how accurate pregnancy blood tests are?
My period was just 4 days overdue but I just had a strong feeling I was pregnant so had a blood test done and it came back negative. Even though everyone says I shouldn't get my hopes up because these tests are so accurate I can't help wondering if there's a chance I still might be pregnant. Does anyone know what the chances are or had this happen to you? Thanks.

- Very accurate no lies with blood tests
- did u find out what your hcg beta was it has to be a 5 or more better to show that u are prego
- they are 100% in fact Dr.'s do so after you have had a at home test and its + just to be super sure you are.
- Blood tests are extremely accurate. I had a pregnancy "pee-on-the-stick" type and it was negative, although I had a strong feeling I was pregnant and talked the doctor into doing a blood test. Sure enough I was pregnant - only just, but still. Try again ay - if you want that is.
- Blood test are incredibly accurate. They are more sensitive than the HPTs and those are 99% accurate when taken after the first day of a missed period. Sorry but it sounds like you are not pregnant. Best of luck to you!
- try waiting a little longer then go for another test.. there not always accurate... I was 2 1/2 months before they figured out I was pregnant including blood tests
- if you had an actual blood test that said you were negative i would probably say your not pregnant. if it was just one of the pee on the stick ones you could be pregnant.... but if you did have blood taken and done at a lab and stuff i would say your not pregnant. sorry
- A pregnancy blood test measures the exact amount of pregnancy hormone It is detectable in the blood and urine within 10 days of fertilization. Blood tests can detect a pregnancy earlier than a home pregnancy test. They can detect it about 7-12 days from possible conception. Blood tests have a 99% accuracy rate
- its pretty much a for sure thing with a blood test. sorry!
- they are very accurate, I'm a technical officer that analysis blood and all patient samples and usually blood tests are accurate, but if you have doubts you can always ask for another test to be done.
- If it was a qualitative one that gives you a yes or no.. than its possible.. its been known to happen but a qualitative blood test measures the exact amount of pregnancy hormone and cannot be wrong..unless you were too early to test but it sounds like you werent.. sorry... good luck
- I know I'm a little late answering, but they say that blood tests are extremely accurate. However, you read on here and some women say that they didn't test positive until like 4 months prego. If the dr did a quantitative, which tells the exact number of hcg, I would say that it is accurate if it said negative, but a qualitative is no more accurate than a urine test. It just gives a yes or no. On a quantitative, in order for you to be pregnant, you have to have a level above 5 i think. Anything below 5 is negative. Ask your doc what your level was and go from there. If your unsure then get him to order another test, quantitative. Good luck!
