Blood Drug Testing

Low red blood cell count, high platelets and high MCH on lab test. what does it mean?

I had a blood test done and my Dr only told me they were going to do it again. I'll have to wait until next Monday or Tuesday and I just can't do that. I had low red blood cell count, high platelets and high MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin) on lab test. Only serious responses please.

  2. It sounds to me like your doctor wants to retest to see if you are anemic. This means that for some reason (usually an iron deficiency) your blood may not be carrying around enough oxygen to meet the body's demands. MCH is part of "red blood cell indicies" which help a physician diagnose anemia and what kind it is. MCH is elevated in certain anemias. Only your doctor can tell you what kind you have and even if you have it. That is why he or she is probably wanting that second workup. Anemia is very common and most people just need to make sure that they are getting more iron in their diets or in some cases take an iron supplement. DO NOT start self treating until you hear more information from your doctor because those lab values are known to fluctuate... hence the second test ; ) Hope this helped!
