Blood Drug Testing

Can my parents get my blood test results?

I went to the doctors and received a blood test. My parents cannot find out what i was being tested for however. I am 20 years old but i am under my parents insurance and things like that. If my mom were to call the lab or the doctors office and ask for my test results, would she be able to get them?

  1. No. You are protected by law for them not to release information without identification.
  2. Nope. There is a federal law called HIPAA, which means that no one can review your records without your written permission. Even if you were only 18 your parents would not be able to access your health records without your permission. If someone in the doctor's office did screw up and give your results to your mom, they could be fined, big time.
  3. No. ALl test results are confidential.
