Blood Drug Testing

Abnormal blood test results for 1 year old?

I just got a letter in the mail saying to call the doctor's office to schedule an appointment to discuss my son's abnormal blood test results. My son has been perfectly healthy. When he was born he had low blood sugar, but after a couple days it was normal. Turns out I had undiagnosed gestational diabetes. I was wondering what could it mean. I know it was routine blood work and I am going to schedule an appointment first thing in the morning, but any advice until then will be greatly appreciated. I am going crazy with all kinds of possibilities.

  1. stop with the crazy thoughts. If it were really bad you would have gotten a phone call not a letter.Chill.
  2. I got chills reading your question. I too had a seemingly healthy pregnancy (my second), but in April 2008 when my daughter was about 10 minutes old she started shaking. They checked her blood sugar and it was 13! I had not been diagnosed with diabetes either. My doctor ordered a blood test on me to check for an indicator that I had had diabetes, but he said I did not. I'm healthy and not over weight. My daughter was in the NICU for a week and was released with a blood sugar of 40. Two weeks ago she began shaking again before her feeding so I went to the Pediatrician who ordered blood work. The blood work was ordered again after one week. Both were the same. Her fasting glucose was low, her white blood cells and platelets were low, and about 4 other things were either high or low. We are scheduled to see a pediatric endocrinologist Oct. 27 to get a diagnosis. She looks and acts fine, but I do notice she gets dark circles under her eyes most of the day. Hopefully everything will be fine for both of us!
