How long do you have to fast for blood tests?

I am having blood tests done in the morning (CBC, glucose, urine, etc.). How long are you supposed to fast? 8 hours? 12 hours?

2. My mom has to have those all the time. They tell her to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before.
