what do doctors check for in blood chemistry tests

- They are looking at many different things. They could be testing your chemical balance. Or they could be testing for bacteria and infection. Check out Web MD
- Blood chemistry shows values of various electrolytes such as calcium, potassium, sodium, and such in the blood.Expanded blood chemistry testing can show liver function, kidney function, and cholesterol. The blood test called CBC shows hemoglobin, hematocrit, and white blood cell count. So,blood chemistry does not show infection. However,if the values seem concentrated, this could indicate dehydration.

- The tests check fior whatever the doctor orders. There are literally HUNDREDS of blood tests, some for chemistry, some for disease antibodies. A typical Blood Chemistry test will check for Potassium, Calcium, Sodium, and Magnesium. Probably check for CO2. Also check for hemoglobin (for possible anemia). Many times the doctor will test for creatinine (possible kidney disease) and blood glucose level (possible diabetes). if the doctor suspects any other disease (liver, thyroid, pituitary, adrenals, testes/ovaried, prostate, cancer, STDs, etc) the doctor will order specific tests for those, too.
