How long does it take for a doctor to get cholesterol level blood test results?
I had my blood drawn almost a week ago at the nearby health center and my doctor is telling me that he never got the results yet. Should he have gotten them by now, and, if not, why?

- He should have gotten them. Probably just a miscommunication - call the lab and make sure they've sent them and have sent them to the right doctor. Sometimes, results just don't make it through. Technology. Fax machines. Could be anything.
- It takes less than an hour to run the test. Normally the results are back to the doctor the next day The reason we tell people to expect the results the next day for most routine lab work is (depending on the size of the lab and how automated) the sample has to be processed, the test run and the paper work for the result has to be faxed to the doctor. If it has been a week then the specimen was lost, the lab report was lost or something was wrong and the test did not turn out reportable. I do not know what the situation is of course but in my experience the report usually gets lost between the fax machine and the patients chart at the doctors office. Sometime it is easier to just go to medical records at the hospital and see if they have a copy of the result. You can sign a form and get the report yourself. Good luck
