Blood Drug Testing

is a blood pregnancy test more accurate?

i'm now a week late for my period. i've taken 3 home urine tests but all say negative. i've had unprotected sex 3 times in the past month on the 14th, 22nd, and the 30th. If i was to go to a clinical and get the blood pregnancy test would that to say negative or would that detect it better than the urine ones u buy from the drug store?

  1. A blood test is way more effective than an at home urine test. I had false negatives for a month with the take home pregnancy tests. Go see a doctor.
  2. Blood tests can detect lower levels of pregnancy hormone than at-home urine tests. Even the most sensitive at-home tests can only detect as low as 25 micro-grams of HCG -- blood tests can detect as little as 1 micro-gram of HCG (anything over 6 is considered pregnant). Good luck!
  3. Blood tests do detect the pregnancy horomones before a urine test would. If you are really concerned, then yes, go to the DR and they will give you the test. Good luck- or not if you aren't trying to conceive.
  4. go for a blood test it will be more accurate, as you could be doing the test wrong, i know that sounds stupid as you just pee on a stick, but they can easily go wrong. go to the doctors and get a blood test
  5. I've heard that the Blood tests are more accurate. Sometimes it takes some women a few tries to get the urine one to work because the hormones arent build up enough to detect yet. Good luck!
  6. Yeah - but I would think if your already a wk late a HPT would detect it - but a blood test would give you peace of mind for sure.
  7. The blood tests or serum tests as they call them are more accurate. They can detect the exact amount of hCG in your blood which is higher in concentration anyway. The home tests only are designed to pick up at a certain sensitivity but will show a negative if you have less. I would get a quantitative serum test if you are able as those or pretty conclusive. I had one done as I had a kinda ify test and wasn't sure. I ended up having an early miscarriage but this time around the home urine test turned dark right away and it freaked me out lol. It just depends, some women never get a positive test and are about 3 months along. At a week late a dollar store test or First Response should be able to detect with your first morning urine but my philosophy has been that I never believe those things until I get my full flow lol. Best of luck and blessings :)
