Blood Drug Testing

What does a lab tech do to conduct a blood test?

After blood is drawn and sent to the lab, what steps are involved to get the results? For example, does the lab tech add a drop of blood onto a test strip and see color change? Or is a flow cytometer involved somewhere? Is DNA analysis involved?

  1. There are hundreds of different blood tests the doctor can order. What tube they draw into and what gets done with it depends ENTIRELY on what the doctor requested. Rarely these days are the tests so rudimentary and unsophisticated as to merely put a drop of blood onto a test strip. Most involve some sort of analytical testing and machines are involved in many of those.
