What happens if you fail a drug test because you smoked drugs abroad in a country where it is legal to do so?
If you go to amsterdam and get stoned, and then a week later have a drug test back in your home country.

- The test is to SEE IF YOU DO DRUGS. It's not to see if you do them here or somewhere else.
- You would probably get the same sentence as there is no way to prove you smoked in another country.
- if you broke the law and you were supposed to abstain from using you are SOL as well as applying for a job. sorry but really you are SOL. people see this as illegal and own't care that is was legal in another country
- I guess that depends on what the test is for. If its a court ordered test, probably wont make a difference, because you are under court orders to remain clean. If its for a job, they *might* make an exception if you can prove you were in a place where it was legal. However, most probably wont as a result of zero tolerance policies.
- A drug test is done to see if you have the substance in your system--not necessarily whether you've committed a crime. Many places test for alcohol, yet alcohol is a legal substance. Some companies in my area test for nicotine (another legal substance). If you have the substance in your system, you fail the test and live with the consequences. Some people mistakenly think that if we legalize marijuana that companies will no longer test for it. This is untrue. In fact, if we legalize marijuana, more companies will test for it. Just because a substance is legal does not mean that you can't be tested for it and have consequences if it is in your system.
