blood tests?
I am in cancer remission and have great trouble giving blood for tests. I drink heaps of water before I have been told that helps a great deal, any suggestions would really help, last time they couldnt even get a quarter of a vile and I ended up black and blue from all the tries, any suggestions please?

- Have a warm bath and find where your best veins are. When you go for a blood test you could let the phlebotomist know where to go and before the test, wrap the area with warm wet cloth, that should dilate the vein. Take care
- I have the same problem with giving blood, my arm literally is sore from the all the tries until they have to take it from the back of my hand, they always ask me what i drink, but you might want to check your iron, or you might just have weak veins like me, there is no definite scientific explanation for it, I have searched everywhere, but no answer.
- Did u check with the doctor or nurse in charge? They should have better advise.
- the warm wash cloth is good. when i have trouble i ask for a differnt person to try.i also know my arms better than they do , so I tell them where to try.. don't let them do anything you don't want.
- Yes, find a competent phlebotomist. I could get blood out of a turnip.
- Perhaps you are tense when you go to give blood and as a reaction the veins restrict and seem to sink into the skin thus making them thinner and harder to reach. Try doing a vigorous walk exactly before going to give blood... i am a blood donor with a similar problem and i always find it easier when i take a brisk 15 minute walk before actually sitting on the couch... also i try to look away and think of something really really really nice.
