Blood Drug Testing

Do general blood tests check cholesterol levels?

I have a lump in my neck (turned out to be a swollen lymph node, so panic over) - but I'm wondering whether the blood tests I had done would have included cholesterol. It wasn't a fasting test, but the nurse took three vials full. Also - all results came back normal.

  1. no you need to have a lipid panel done. That tests your cholestrol, triglycerides.
  2. A total cholesterol test is a rough calculation of all the cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. Some cholesterol is considered good quality and some is considered as bad for health. Different blood tests are required to separately determine each type of cholesterol. The total cholesterol test is typically done as part of a lipid profile, which also checks for LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. The American Heart Association recommends that for optimal heart health, total cholesterol should be under 200, HDL should be 60 or above, LDL should be under 100, and triglycerides under 150. If your cholesterol test indicates that you have high cholesterol, talk to your doctor about treatment options. If you want an easier option to check your cholesterol I will recommend you to order a cholesterol test kit which can give you accurate figure about your total cholesterol level.
