What does this mean? "Your antenatal screening blood tests are normal." What did they test for?
Was my 11week pregnancy blood test. Also tested was HIV, Syphilis, Blood type, urine and hepatitis, but those are all tested separately. I don't know that the antenatal screening test is for? Is it referring to the other tests (all normal) or is it referring to something else? Oh, with that test it also says "Prenatal Profile - Normal Immune". I'm confused if it is a Down's Syndrome etc. test, or just a repeat statement that I don't have AIDS, syphilis etc.?

- i had to have them to...... i was thinking i know i don't have hiv and hep b, hep c and all the rest of them. its nothing against you its just so the docs know if you do because most of the diseases can be passed on to your bub... hope i helped good luck
- I know you may want to know right away but call your doctor to find out.
- http://www.intellectualdisability.info/diagnosis/antenatal_screening.htm google. edit: Everytime I go to see my doc. she gives me a drug test. Everytime I see her, I ask so did you detect the drugs I've been using. Sadly she's seen where people do take drugs while they're pregnant. :( edit: It should be both for certain disabilities they can detect early and also STD screening. Some disabilities I had to wait until I was in my 2nd trimester, but I must admit I have no idea what they are now. Also, I had the Down Syndrom test done with all my other test at 7wks(?). They told me my chances etc.
- they mainly test for std's, aids/hiv, your hcg level to see how far along you are, blood type and rh factor to see if you are rh negative, sometimes iron levels to see if you are anemic at all, urine samples can be to make sure there are no uti's and that you do not have protein in your urine which can be a sign of preeclampsia
- antenatal literally "before baby" ante - before natal-baby So all your pregnancy tests were normal. :) Prenatal means the same thing, before baby. And a profile is just a group of tests. So that was just saying normal immune. You're immune system is just fine and isn't compromised by an immunodeficiency disorder such as HIV
- Antenatal screening is a way of assessing whether the unborn baby (fetus) could develop [or has developed] an abnormality or other condition during pregnancy. Screening is not the same as diagnosis – it tells health professionals how likely a baby is to develop certain conditions. If the risk of complications is found to be high, the mother may be offered a pre-natal diagnosis. This is a test to find out more about how likely the baby is to be born with the suspected condition. Examples of diagnostic tests include amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS). They are not offered routinely because they are often quite invasive (go into the body) and are unnecessary for the majority of women who have healthy pregnancies.
- Call up the office and ask exactly what was included in the test. I ask these questions BEFORE the test. I have to pay 20% of all charges and I want a breakdown beforehand to know exactly what is being tested for. I refuse a lot of tests. But they are used to that at my clinic. A lot of the women at that clinic donate blood regularly and have no desire to pay to repeat those tests. The Downs syndrome test is a different test, btw. Done a little later, I think. It's usually called the AFP test, but could also be called something else.
