Will my blood get drug tested if I donate in a blood drive?
I smoke weed, but I don't do any other drugs, not even prescription. I know that many hospitals give medical marijuana to their patients, so obviously they know its medicinal value, but since it is illegal to smoke recreationally, will I get penalized if my blood is tested?

- They cannot tell that you have smoked pot. Even if they could, they wouldnt be able to turn you in for it. The things they check for when they test your blood for donations are blood borne illnesses.
- No they won't test it and come looking for you. blood donation is super anonymous. Your blood will likely be regected anyway, smoking causes changes in the blood cells. your blood cells need to meet a certain criteria to be donatable. Also, pot causes some chemical changes in the brain. I'm sure you don't want a sick person to have any ill effects from getting your blood. Just wait until you are smoke free for a while and donate then. If you are healthy your blood is really a life saver. Over a life time you could help many people. Be sure to take care of your body, don't smoke, dont do drugs, eat good, and be healthy.
- I would be careful when donating blood. Marijuana in you blood could cause a problem with the person that receives it.
- Hi there Sweetheart. I tested many of you young people before they gave blood. Don't worry, they test you for std's things like this besides blood diseases, they will ask you if you do have anything but, don't worry. I tested many college people from the area we worked in, many had so many scars on thier arms we couldn't find veins, I even bent needles.
