Blood Drug Testing

Is it safe to take illegal drugs after lap band surgery?

I am going to answer this question myself seeing as the other questions concerning this topic have been resovled without hard cold facts! I am a 21 year old registered nurse and I can provide medical facts and personal experiences for people experimenting with ecstasy and other illegal drugs after laproscopic banding. Firstly whether ecstasy is snorted or taken orally it will still prove detrimental to health. The new created stomach pouch responds immediately to food and medications this is why lap banding patients have a quicker satiety. This is also the same with drugs, once ingested (swallowed with water) or snorted (the drugs will be present in saliva which is then swallowed to sit in the small stomach pouch). Ecstasy stimulates the brain, and when taken lap band patients will feel an instant "hit". It only takes less than a quarter of an ecstasy pill to feel "high". Instant symptoms will be: racing heart beat (tacycardia), dizziness, shaking, nausea, vomiting, sense of a swollen throat, sore stomach etc. Remember this willhappen quicker in people with a lap band in comparison to other people. If a lap band patient was to take one ecstasy pill there is a high chance the ultimate symptom will be death. Just think about it. People with lap band can't even tolerate large consumtions of alcohol. What makes you think they can tolerate ecstacy. Ecstasy contains bases of cocaine and heroin, and are not purely MDMA based these says! The lethal mixes in the pills can also tear or rupture the stomach lining this can also result in band slippage or a possiblity to reoperate. Now for a personal experience close to home. My best friend had a lap band insterted a few months ago, and a few weeks ago a group of all our friends decided to go out clubbing. Other friends of ours decided to take ecstasy and my friend with the lap band decided to have to residue of the crushed up pill to rekindle old habits. She only licked half a cm of the powder an was instantly struck with a "high" she had never felt before. This was a scary high where she feared for her life causing her distress and anxiety, which caused her heart to beat faster and faster. She was taken to emergency where they performed a series of tests before stabilization and discharge. Can you imagine what would have happened if she had consumed more than she did? I'm telling you because I was right there that she would have been dead!!!!!! My friend gas now taken this experience as a lesson for the future. She is staying away from ecstasy and enjoying her life without this habit! To all of you out there who are debating to take ecsatsy after lap band, I hope I have thrown some light on your decision not to take it. I hope people looking up this topic will stumble upon my page because I wouldn't be wasting my time writing this if I couldn't save someone from illness or death! Remember you have engaged in a lap band procedure to transform your whole life. Your ecstasy will be your weight loss at the end of this. Be strong, get help from professionals if required but above all STAY AWAY FROM ILLEGAL DRUGS!!
