Blood Drug Testing

No insulin but normal blood sugar?

My friend is in her 30s and having trouble getting pregnant. She is in excellent health and appropriate weight. The doctor ordered a bunch of lab work, including tests related to her insulin and blood sugar levels. One of the tests came back showing that she has normal blood sugar, but an insulin level of ZERO. The doctor didn't think that could be right, so he ordered the test again with the same result. Since then, she has been testing her blood sugar levels at home on a regular basis, with all readings being on the low end of normal. Anyone have any clue how this is possible?

  1. Sounds like someone at the lab forgot to change the batteries in their insulin detection equipment or her body has found a different agent to activate the insulin receptors in the cell walls. Without insulin, blood glucose cannot get from the blood into the cells and would build up to intolerable levels very quickly. In other words, not possible.
