Blood Drug Testing

Blood Type Question? [PLEASE HELP... 7th Grade]?

In the maternity ward, Mrs. Bright and Mrs. Light shared a room. When they were ready to go home, Mrs. Bright insisted that she had been given the wrong baby. The babies looked much alike, and unofrtunately, no one could find a record of the babies' footpritns. Hospital officials told Mrs. Bright she was mistaken and sent her and the baby home. Mrs. Bright eventually asked the hopspital to perform identification tests. The blood type tests showed tthe following Date. Mrs. Bright = Typpe AB Mr. Bright = Type O Baby at Bright's House = Type O Mrs. Light = Type A Mr. Light = Type A Baby at Light's House - Type A QUESTION: * Was there a mixup of babes at the hospital? Explain.

  1. I suppose maybe it could have been a mixup but who can say for sure? I would say no tho.
  2. they wouldn't do a blood test they would do a DNA test and I have no idea about blood types, I only know about the Rh factor
  3. Yes...Mrs. Bright could only have a baby with either A or B blood type...a person with AB cannot have a child with type O. A and B are both dominant blood types. Hope you get the extra credit points...hope my students aren't getting their answers this way!
  4. Yes there was a mix up, you can only have type O blood when both parents have type O blood. But shouldn't you be doing your own homework?
  5. why dont they do a DNA test?!? I'm not good at this blood type thing! EDIT why dont they go on national TV and find out if the baby is really theirs! Isnt that what Maury is for?!
  6. hmmm? the bloodtype "AB" may be a "AB", "Ab" or "aB" or "ab" (the capital letters indicating dominant traits). Let's say Mrs. Bright is a "ab" and Mr. Bright is a "OO", there is a good chance that the baby may have an "O" trait (you did not indicate what the recessive trait is ("Oo", "Oa", "Ob", OO, "OA", "OB"??). Same with the other couple. AB being the rarest blood group found in most human populations (and therefore more likely recessive), all in all my guess would be that there was NO mixup at the hospital... More information on the types, factors and recessive types are needed
