- To get an accurate result you should eat normally as you usually do until at least 12 hours before the test which you should then fast...no food or water at all!
- To test for type 2 diabetes you have to fast for 10 hours prior to the first blood test. Then they give you a glucose solution to drink and you wait 2 hours and they give you another blood test. It doesn't really matter what you eat prior to fasting as it will be out of your system before the first blood test and will therefore not affect the test at all. If she has diabetes, then she has diabetes. Eating sweets that week or not eating sweets will not affect the test. Hopefully if she is diagnosed, she will have the willpower to choose her foods more carefully.
- It depends on the blood glucose test you are going to have. 1. Fasting blood glucose test: YES The fast period before your test should be 12 hours. 2. A1C Blood glucose test: NO This test does not require fasting as it results in a 3 month (90 day) average which will result in a percentage form. The highest result should not exceed 5.9%.
- If you have a problem it's going to make it worse.
