Blood Drug Testing

Why do they drug test the armed forces when they are given stimulants to enhance their performance.?

Certainly pilots have been given speed type drugs to help them stay alert so what is the use of a drug test? What about proof. This isn't a court of law. I don't need proof here. Everybody knows it happens. Pharmacutical togh it may be there is no such thing as a free lunch and if they take stimulants it could lead to operational errors, friendly fire, colateral damage.

  1. Now it would be nice if you could back that statement up with some proof.
  2. Pilots are given prescription strength clinically administered amphetamines to perform 24 flying missions which require the utmost alertness and precision. They are not up there smoking crank just to get wasted. Drugs test are extremely mission essential to the military. We don't need a bunch of junkies, meth heads or coke heads or pot heads endangering our mission.
  3. All that crap is nothing but urban legends. There have been pilots in the past taken meth and other speed junk, but that doesn't mean the military issued them drugs. They were taking them illegal. Violation of the UCMJ, article 112(a). That is just plain ridicules. I've known many Marine/Navy Pilots and they are in a mission-essential task, they don't need speed when they got pure adrenaline cranking up those Gs! Next time, ask questions that doesn't state insubstantial information. Makes you look like a dumbass!
  4. In certain specific situations a flight surgeon can prescribe medications to a pilot for long-duration missions. This is not 'performance enhancement' - this is a careful weighing of the relative risks of each course of action and choosing the one that results in the least amount of risk. BTW - since you seem to think it is OK to bake unfounded accusations: How would you feel if one of us accused you of being a child molester? Would you feel that this would be OK because we are playing by the same rules as yourself?
