Blood Drug Testing

Has anyone had repeated negative results with home pregnancy tests, but a positive blood test at the doctors?

I have had repeated negative results with home pregnancy tests, but my period still didn't come and I was sure that I was pregnant. So I went to the doctor and had a blood test which was positive! Has anyone else had this experience?

  1. Pregnancy tests measure a substance called hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin. This substance can be detected by a blood test by 11-14 after conception (conception is usually around the middle of your cycle). The blood test is more sensitive to low levels of HCG, so if you did the home tests early they may not have been accurate. Blood tests are 99% accurate and HPT are 97% accurate, but this depends on how they are used. False negatives can happen if: * They are used too early (should be used 7 days after your missed period). * The test isn’t timed properly. * You drank a lot of fluids prior to the test as this will dilute the HCG in the urine.
  2. I am so glad that you asked this question. And I am really happy with the response you received. I have been getting negative results and I have a very light period. Pretty much it might of well of not even showed up. So I really just want to say thank you for asking this and getting the answers. I haven't gotten yet but I am guessing I just might!
  3. nope, never. iv'e been ttc for 2 years and have had plenty of times where my period was late and i thought for sure i was pregnant even though the home tests were saying negative, but every time i went in for a blood test, that was negative too. you got really lucky, congrats!
