  1. FAIR WARNING: If you're a drug user, then don't come to Taiwan. There's a crackdown underway. A blood test is required in order to obtain employment/health insurance. If you fail it, and are lucky enough not to end up in jail, then they'll likely find a way to immediately deport you at your own expense. Drugs take about 3 months to be fully eliminated from your system. If you have a problem with substance abuse, then clean up your act before coming. Good luck to you. @BSherman - A good answer, aside from failing to mention that drug abuse had been rampant in China and Southeast Asia for longer than the US has even been a country.
  2. You wont get accepted into the country as a worker if illegal substances are detected. The penalty for drug trafficking is death in Taiwan, as the airport sign on arrival cheerfully announces. (it is somewhat unlikely, but they did just shoot a few death row inmates a month or so ago...) anyways, i would recommend staying off the stuff for longer than 3 months to possibly a year or four and studying something and proving to yourself and the authorities that you can complete a task such as a degree program without chemical aid, before wasting your time and money coming here. If you are a drug using party animal you should stay out of Taiwan. Your kind are unwanted and un-needed here, and if you don't have a legitimate certification from an accredited school you are unlikely to be able to get work. They DO check that these days, and nowadays can afford to be choosy about who they let work here.
  3. Modern drug testing techniques, such as hair follicle analysis, detect drug use within the previous 90 days and sometimes even longer. If you have taken illegal drugs within 3 months prior to your drug test, then it will all show up in the results. Foreigners taking a drug screening test as part of their Taiwanese employment visa process will have their employment offer and visa rescinded. The Taiwanese police will become involved because they must arrest and deport you (at your expense). Illegal drug use is the great tragedy of America and Europe. A productive society requires healthy drug-free citizens. Be aware that possessing small amounts of illegal drugs in Asia typically results in huge prison sentences. Most Asian countries use the death penalty routinely for drug traffickers. China, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines execute any and all drug dealers.
