  1. You usually need more than a blood test to find cancer. Frequently cancer does effect your blood in some way so you will have abnormal results on the standard blood tests but then you'll need extra testing to diagnose any particular type of cancer. Diabetes does give you an abnormal level on a blood glucose test, but I think they have another test that you need to take before they diagnose diabetes. Basically simple blood tests can give you an indication that something is wrong but almost every time you will need a lot more testing to diagnose cancer or diabetes or really any other serious illness/condition. ETA- oops, I may be wrong on the diabetes thing- I think the blood glucose test might actually be the test that they use to diagnose diabetes. You have to fast and then drink some sugar water basically and they test your blood during that time period. They can tell if you have diabetes just from that test.
