Blood Drug Testing

What all is checked when they do a thyroid blood test?

I have a thyroid problem and once a year I need to have a blood test done. I was just curious of the lab checks anything else like white blood count or sugar levels.

  1. no. all they check is the level of thyroid hormone in your system
  2. No, WBC and glucose are not checked. A thyroid blood test is usually just TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) along with Free T4.
  3. What they do check and what they SHOULD check are usually 2 different tests. Most doctors only test TSH sometimes T4 or total T4. BUT They SHOULD test TSH, FREE T4 and FREE T3... ALL are very important dont let anyone lie and say anything different, if they are not being checked your not properly being treated. Always get copies of your labs so you know your results. Make sure the lab you go to is using current normal range for TSH it is now .3-3.0 but many labs have yet to change. Also a good doctor will check blood count levels, IRON, FERRITIN, Vit C and Vit D because all are important and some being out of range can mimic thyroid symptoms and cause problems!
