Blood Drug Testing

Do normal blood tests pick up HIV infection?

I had a series of blood tests done recently for thyroid function, blood sugar etc. There were about 6 separate tests done. All came back within normal limits. Would such tests pick up an abnormality such as HIV infection or at least indicate a problem perhaps exists? Thanks all.

  1. nope there is a specific test to detect HIV
  2. No, you have to do a test that specifically looks for HIV (or anything else suspected).
  3. No. The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get an HIV test. It can not be diagnosed by any other test. Because HIV testing legally requires the written consent of the person being tested, HIV testing is never included as part of the routine testing you mention. If you want to be tested for HIV, you need to request the test and sign a consent form.
