Are There Different Types of Urine And Blood Tests?
I have been suffering from heart palpitations for a few months now, and was advised to go to the hospital two weeks ago to have some tests done. I was tested for a number of things including thyroid and found that I have nothing serious. I also had blood and urine tests done and I was wandering if there are different types of tests that they do and whether they just test for individual things. Because they tested me for infection, I was wandering if they would be able to tell if I was pregnant from the tests because I have been experiencing other pregnancy symptoms including nausea, tiredness and dizziness. If anyone could give me any advice on this, it would be great, i'm just not 100% if I could be pregnant and they didn't realise because they were testing me for infection etc. Thankyou very much for your help.

- Well first of all, if you think you're pregnant go get a test from Walmart. And they test for different things in urine. They could tell pregnancy but not unless they are looking for it. If the doctor was checking to see if you were pregnant, she or he would give you a regular test. As for blood, each of those little viles that they put the blood in? That stuff at the bottom of them is a reacting agent. Depending on what they are looking for, they will put it in the right vile. That's why they will often take more than one; to check for different things. Each sample of blood will be looked at by a lab technician.
- They would have to specifically order a pregnancy test. They may have done so; ask you Doc. Also nausea, dizziness and fatigue could be related to the infection as well. And you will need a little time to get back on your feet. You need to have a conversation with your Doc or his nurse (real nurse, not a medical assistant) to explain exactly what was done, what was found, how it was treated, how to prevent it in the future, etc. You can also check on the pregnancy thing at the same time. Be knowledgeable about your health and the treatments you receive! Good Luck
- Your average commercial reference lab, to whom doctors' offices might send samples for testing, generally have a small book about 3/8" thick containing a list of the tests they offer. That is, there are more tests than you can shake a stick at. They wouldn't have done a pregnancy test unless it was ordered. There's an old adage in medicine that when dealing with women of childbearing age, you ask her menstrual history, ask if there's any possibility of pregnancy, and if she says "no," then the doctor should believe her.....and get a pregnancy test. With that in mind, it's quite possible, and even likely, your doctor ordered one, and he's the one you should be asking.
- Pregnancy symptoms can vary from one woman to another. In fact, some pregnant woman may not have any pregnancy symptoms at all for a while and another woman will know she is pregnant very easily just from her symptoms alone. Some of the early pregnancy symptoms are the following: missed menstrual period morning sickness frequent urination mood swings swollen and tender breasts constipation sensitivity to smell fatigue
