Blood Drug Testing

The nurse could not get enough blood to fill the 6 vials required for my lab tests.?

She turned her back, and over the sink, opened one of the vials and transferred the blood to the other vial that was empty. Will this compromise my lab tests? Are the tubes for the blood vacuum sealed? This was one in the doctor`s office, I would have normally gone to a Lab to have it done, but this was quicker. Should I request another test be taken?

  1. Nurse here. I think it would depend on the tubes. Different blood tubes have different additives (such as blood thinners to avoid clotting etc), but if they were 2 similar tubes it should be fine. The tubes are vacuum sealed, but that is just to pull the blood out of the vein. A phlebotomist may be able to better answer your question...but that is a strange practice for sure! Shannon
