Had blood test and a colposcopy, does that pick up herpes?
Ok, so I've had 2 STD tests that both came back negative after I got chlamydia. I had a blood test to see if I had HIV which was also negative. I had an abnormal pap smear so I had to go get a colposcopy and they said it was negative too. SO my question is this...I had little bumps and I don't know if it's herpes or weird razor burn. Do all of those tests include herpes in their results?

- No. Most doctors offices dont automatically test for herpes because it isnt life-threatening. You would have to specifically ask to be tested for HSV 1 & 2.
- Ditto to above. You will want to have a viral swab within 24-48 hours of the "bumps" appearing--otherwise, the only way herpes can be diagnosed is via the IgG type-specific herpes blood test. The drawback to the IgG is that it will take your body 2 weeks-4 months to develop the antibodies that indicate you have been infected with the herpes virus. If you take the test too soon, it will show a false-negative for the virus. Usually, a reliable result is attained by 3 months post-exposure to herpes.
