Blood Drug Testing

Would they check for pregnancy in the lab blood tests before a colonoscopy?

Public Comments

  1. If it's a young woman of child bearing age, then yes, they should as they generally sedate the patient prior to the procedure and they wouldn't wish to harm a pregnancy with any of the drugs that are used in the sedation.
  2. No. They don''t usually do lab blood test prior to a colonoscopy. It is the patients responsibility to tell the gastroenterologist if they suspect they are pregnant. The will ask you in the questionnaire prior to the colonoscopy.
  3. Not where I work. Of course, the overwhelming majority of our colonoscopy patients are over 50, and the chance of pregnancy is very low. If you are concerned, request it.
