In the lab, what color kind of tube is coagulation and anticoagulant blood tests collected in?

- The tubes are all clear, it's the stoppers that are colored.
- red top is coag and blue top and purple to is anticoag due to heparin

- It depends on the tests to be carried out. It also depends on the Country doing the tests. Anticoagulent is used to keep blood as close to its origonal condition as possible. eg. a Pink tube is used for blood counts. If the blood clotted it would lock up the blood cells so that they couln't be counted. Also different kinds of anti-coagulent are used for different tests, hence the difference in colour.
