Which types of cancers can be detected through blood or urine tests?
Public Comments
- A fecal occult blood test (FOBT) is a noninvasive test (nothing enters the body). This test detects hidden (occult) blood in the stool. Such blood may come from anywhere along the digestive tract. Hidden blood in stool is often the first, and in many cases the only, warning sign that a person has colorectal disease, including colon cancer. CA-125 is a protein that is more prevalent in ovarian cancer cells than in other cells. This protein enters the blood stream and can be measured by a blood test. There are two CA-125 tests, a first and second generation test. The second generation test is now more widely used and is generally more accurate. Some common symptoms of bladder cancer include: * Blood in the urine * Pain during urination * Frequent urination, or wanting to pass water but being unable to do so. Leukaemias - Complete blood count & other tests.
- definitely leukemia, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. Possibly hodgkin's lymphoma (not too sure) can be detected with a blood test. Kidney and prostate cancer can be detected with a urine test. bladder cancer can be detected in urine but in the late stages as blood in urine.
- here is a research group someone there might know http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/
