What is the accuracy of blood based pregnancy tests?
I just had a blood based pregnancy test done this morning. Does anyone know what the accuracy of this type of test is? Also, what are they looking for when they do the blood based test?

- 99.99%..they are looking for the HcG hormone! ETA ~ If its neg. no way for you to be pregnant, positive you def. are!
- i would say very accurate. It test for beta HCG, the same as a urine test, but the hormone is more concentrated in the blood.
- the test is 99.8% right.. its better than a urine test
- They will get a level of hCG in your system. This hormone is basically only secreted during pregnancy, so any level over 5 is considered positive for pregnancy. The accuracy is very, very good. You will either get a number back with a positive/negative (for a quantitative test) or just the positive.negative (for a qualitative test). You should have results in a day or so, or even sooner if they requested it STAT.
- The blood pregnancy test tests the Hcg hormone like the home pregnancy tests if your level is 5 mg or higher you are considered pregnant id say they are about 99% aaccurate even if maybe its too early to tell your hormones should double every two days or so. so maybe you could take another one in two or so days if you didnt get the answer you expected good luck
- That is the most accurate preg test they can do, besides an ultrasound farther along. Looking for HGC levels to be high. Good Luck~
- they are pretty accurate. they measure the pregnancy harmone. when i had my miscarriage thats how they knew i really was loosing the baby my blood count (i called it my pregnancy count) was dropping fast. so they pretty much knew it wouldnt come back up and well i did loose the baby, but the farther along you get the stronger it will be in your blood.
- i believe it depends on when you test, but they're more accurate than the hpts
