Blood Drug Testing

Negitives and Positives with hormone and blood pregnancy tests?

I took a pregnacy test today for peace of mind. It showed up positive. Now when I took the other pregnancy test it showed up negitive. I went to the doctor and the blood test showed up negitive. What are the chances that you get a false positive and how can you get a false positive?

  1. That happened to me. I took a test showed my husband...I got excited, went to the doctor took another urine test at her office and she said it came back positive...it was faint, but it was positive. She took blood work and she called me the next day that it was negative, but she wanted me to come back in a day or so, to take another blood test...it was negative again. They couldn't explain it to me...that only happened once to me!!! Never again did it do that to me. So it can happen!
  2. A blood test is very accurate. If your still not sure you could ask your doc. to give you a physical exam. They can tell from looking at your cervix and stuff.
  3. Honestly, if you get a positive HPT and the blood test is negative, then it's safe to say that you're not pregnant. It's possible to get a false positive with a HPT, but it's extremely rare. It's possible to get a false negative with a blood test, but it's even more rare than getting a false positive on a HPT.
  4. blood tests are usually most accurate. though it is pretty rare, less than 1% to get a false positive on a hormone test. wait a couple weeks test again with the hormone test, see if you develop other symptoms. and ask your doctor if it is still false why the hormone levels could have been off, its better to be safe than sorry.
