would a cbc, blood chemistry, or ldh test show if there was any kind of infection?

  1. a cbc would show infection because your white blood count would be high, as far as the other tests, no.
  2. It will show what your red and white cell counts are, and those numbers can indicate infection or not. A complete blood count (CBC)can contain a wealth of information for the doctor. It can show if you are having liver/kidney issues, infection and what kind it may be, as well as other indicators of problems. A very worthwhile test.
  3. Blood tests can show many types of infection, but sometimes, to be conclusive, other tests MUST be done to confirm what one test (or more) may show. For example, in the case of a gallbladder problem: A sonogram, one type of extensive test, can first be done. If no gallstones are present (usually formed around the lower back area), doctors often miss the problem. Dye can then be inserted up the patient, through a vagina or penis, to confirm that there is a problem. A hydroscan, done with a special high-tech camera, must be done to pinpoint the problem, often as a last resort. That happened to me, and it was found, at the time, that my gallbladder was functioning, out of a 100% range, at only 25%. I don't miss the "little hummer!" As this relates to bloodwork: If a doctor does bloodwork at the height of this problem, the white blood cell count will be low---indicating infection presence. The red blood cell count will be elevated.
  4. If you have an elevated white blood cell count in your cbc, this would mean your body has some type of infection that the wbc's are trying to fight off. The other tests would not show this.
