  1. There are a wide variety of tests done to detect drugs of abuse in the clinical laboratory. When I tested for these in medical laboratory, the insert sheets with the drug test kits usually had a section that specified the chemical reaction taking place between the metabolites of the drug and the substrate used to detect its presence. Most likely it is similar to an enzyme-antibody complex that will react with the test strip and produce a colored band if present. A similar test done involves the use of a radioactive enzyme-immunoassay. You could try contacting a local minor emergency medical clinic and tell them of your project. Usually someone there is willing to help and can provide you with the insert. If that does not work, contact a company such as PharmChem (Grand Prairie, TX) that tests for drugs of abuse and request one of their package inserts.
