- If it was Melanoma, it will come back either in the same location or in other parts of the body. If he had tested, there was a chance they could have added Chemo as a treatment, but would you really want to put her through that? The surgery would have been the same. The only thing different is that you don't know for sure. Chances are if he thought it was Melanoma, it was. They have a distinct change in color, border, and raised skin level.
- Next time demand a test. You can do that. If it was cancer you can still have her tested for it. If getting rid of cancer was as easy as removing the lump there would be a lot less deaths. Go to another vet and have blood work done and have them take a tissue sample in the same spot the lump was and have it tested. Good Luck!
- They probably can test the blood to check for certain cancer indicators. I think the test would show if there was possibility for cancer, but more tests might still be needed. I have never had a dog with skin cancer, but I have had dogs with cancer. Chemo is generally much easier on a dog than it is for humans. My dogs were rarely sick from the chemo they received. I don't know if chemo would be an option for you, but chemo is a great therapy. It is expensive and that is the only real drawback.
