Had a baby in Feb. this year & had several prenatal tests done including blood work, would cancer be detected?
Like if I had say colon cancer, would the routine prenatal tests, including having blood work done picked up the colon cancer?

- no colon cancer is detected with a colonoscopy. Blood work would only pick up cancer if they ran a cancer screening which they do not usually do as a matter of course. Your pap would give an indication of cervical cancer but they would cal you within 7 days of the pap smear to tell you if they saw anything unusual on the smear.
- No, with the prenatal tests, they are looking for other things. Cancer and other related diseases are separate tests.
- Not that I know of dear.Usually you have to have certain tests done to see if you have colon cancer and a colonoscopy.I would most definately go to your doctor to be checked out if you believe you may be suffering from this because thats a pretty fast moving disease honey! I hope that everything turns out fine for you and my prayers are with you!Good Luck.
- Not really Testing for cancer is a very specific test and it is not done as a routine. However, I suspect your white cell count may have been taken along with your red cell count. If you have cancer, your white cell count tends to be elevated and this may have been an indication that further test were required. BUT raised white cell count is also present if you have had or have any infection (including the common cold) and so this alone is not good enough as an indicator that you have a tumor and because of this is frequently overlooked unless it is advanced, when the white cell count is markedly increased. If you suspect you have cancer, you must see your Dr ASAP
