Blood Drug Testing

What additional blood tests should be ordered when a patient is an alcoholic?

My boyfriend is going to see his GP to request a full blood workup due to recent chest pains and a visit to the hospital emergency. He has been drinking a lot of alcohol over the past several years, and I was wondering if there are additional blood tests he should request from his doctor that might point out problems with liver/spleen function or vitamin deficiencies. Thank you.

  1. liver function tests are necessary when someone is alcoholic. the liver enzyme levels will tell you how much damage you are doing to your liver which can also affect your heart functions.
  2. He needs to be honest with his doctor about his drinking. The doctor will know what to order.
  3. The tests that will show alcohol affects on his body will be gone in the full blood work-up. It tests for sugars and enzymes. If you are able to talk to the doctor or if you can convince hubby to, mention the alcohol consumption and Doc will make sure any other issues are examined. Good luck to both of you
  4. liver function test , and he should tell his Dr. that hehas been drinking a lot of alcohol .
  5. liver funtion test, clotting screen, amylase, and the normal U&S's FBC and bone. If any of these are abnormal the GP will order more. Hope that helps ya.
